A Travelogue: From the City to the Hinterland.

Local Conflict and Initial Explorations

Surprisingly small settlements actually have officials stops along the journey. Lodging in the small settlements along the rails will be of varying quality.

The locals have quite the rough and tumble life.

Disputes among locals can be settled by violence most often, or by words when disputants are evenly matched or of the same social station.

Sightseeing opportunities for mines and the quaint farmsteads are easily accessible with a few kilomters of walking. Mounts are available for a trek into the more rugged areas where spectacular vistas and the unknown await. If you are in need of supplies, many settlements have merchants able to accomodate most needs.

Sights and sounds of woods, hills, and streams, and plentiful wildlife are ever exciting. One should exercise caution as there are predators that are dangerous to the unwary or unwise. If you and your companions don't have the skills to support your adventurous endeavors, it is wise to hire a local guide, but be wary of charlatans out to take your money without satisfaction of actual service.

After our arrival we witnessed an altercation in the streets where a many was struck down merely because he asked for food. Such backwards people has little compassion for those in need. Knowing the customs of these ruffians by their display of violence, we elected to avoid entanglement in the local situation.

Our attention then focused on finding refreshment after our journey and we found the local version of entertainment, food, drink, and lodging. We procured lodgings after our meal, and before a circumambulation of the settlement. Once we determined the lay of the land, we determined which direction had the most interesting terrain for our exploration.

After a few kilometers on foot, one of my companions stumbled and fell prone causing another companion to overbalance and knocked myself prone as well. We had found our match in terrain rougher than we anticipated. We decided to rest and evaluate our options. Should be continue our trek, or return to our lodgings to rest and try again tomorrow?
