Session Three, Plague of Angels
Session 3 – November 07, 2018
A Travelogue: From the City to the Hinterland. Murder in the Hinterland
While our company continued our explorations, we happened upon a poor soul, shot in the back. Upon alerting the local officials to the body it was discovered that local miners had issues with strangers happening upon their claims. This poor soul was a lone traveler, like ourselves. It is always advisable to journey into the hinterland with companions. Good company among friends brings enjoyment from having someone to share the experience.
After giving our statements, we were free to go about our way. It was obvious that our company was blameless as the whole town watched us arrive on the train platform, and this poor soul had died a few days prior.
The real mystery was were had he been killed, as there was no sign of blood near the body, and no signs of any mine claim. Our company surmised it may have been a different variety of murder unrelated to mining. Perhaps the result of a jealous husband or vengeful business partner.
Whatever the real cause of the murder, we had word a few days later that this traveler had come from the city and had been a witness to a crime. It is my understanding that there was a robbery of some sort and the murder of one of the victims. Some of it is colored by gossip, and the lack of scrupulous journalists in either the city or the hinterland. We we unable to learn if this person was a victim or a party to the robbery, or some witness by happenstance of the robbery/homicide.
One can never be too careful when traveling in the wilds. A group of companions and a trusty pistol will keep one safe from man and beast, especially when men are the beast.
