A Travelogue: From the City to the Hinterland.
Excitement in the City & Overnight by Rail
My companions and I were pleased to join in an adventure to expand our horizons. I had recently come into a small inheritance and invited my friends to join me on an expedition.
Surprisingly, our adventures began while we were still in the city of Ampoule.
No sooner had we boarded the local rail transport, when a kind local returned an item one of my companions dropped before we lost it on the train. The people of Ampoule are friendly and welcoming of strangers.
While we enjoyed the atmosphere of the local open air mall and it cafes and street musicians a poor man fell in agony as he was afflicted by some peculiar off-world parasite. The friendly and helpful local constabulary ran to his aid. I was unable to get a good look, but the poor soul’s chest appeared to have burst open from some worm or snakelike creature. The blood and the screams will haunt my dreams. I fear our travels will mean we don’t learn this poor man’s fate and the origin of this cruel affliction until our return. Sergeant Talon was the brave constable who rushed to aid the stricken man.
Finally, the promptly running train arrived and we embarked with our kit and settled in for the long overnight trip by rail into the hinterland.
Another group of travelers we had met at the cafe prior to the poor misfortune of the afflicted man, were also a group of young and hearty seekers of adventure. We found ourselves in the dining car exchanging stories of our travels and destinations over a friendly game of cards and drinks.
Coincidentally, fate has thrust this other group of boon companions on the same course as us. We had each secured arrangements for an expedition into the hinterland to see the natural wonders of Nacheme. The untouched wilderness of forests, hills, mountains, lakes, and rivers. Their arrangements were with a different guide, and our ways would part once we disembarked on the small seldom used stop on the new transcontinental line. Perhaps we would encounter each other in the wilds, but only time would tell.
